General description of the area

„Chodów-Falniów” area is located in the western part of the Miechów highlands between two municipalities: Miechów and Charsznica. It is located between villages: Chodów and Falniów. Surface area is totally occupied by agricultural habitat. Xerothermic grasslands is protected by the law, cover a very steep, narrow edge of the western exposure. The length of the edge is approximately 840 m and its width is approximately 110m. This is located between agricultural fields of wheat and cabbage.

The value and importance of the natural

The area is distinguished by its well-preserved dry xerothermic grasslands represented by: Inuletum ensifoliae, with numerous positions of protected plants, including: Orchis militaris, Platanthera bifolia, Gymnadenia conopsea, Epipactis atrorubens and Anemone sylvestris, Aster amellus, Campanula sibirica, Carlina acaulis, Cirsium pannonicum.This area is of great importance for the conservation of biodiversity of agricultural landscape.

Threats

    • lack of traditional-extensive agricultural use (grazing, mowing, cutting bushes);
    • over growing of grasslands by Brachypodium pinnatum and shrubs;
    • elimination of other species by the grass;
    • dirt in the area in the southern part;
